Life is better with a wart hog in it

The Albatross

So how it works here, is that there is a super light breakfast at 5:30 if you want it, then depart at 6:00 for a game drive, just as the skies are starting to lighten, then back around 9:30 for a much welcome mega breakfast. Afternoon tea at 3:30, game drive at 4:00 and home in time for dinner at 8:00. Very dignified. During the day some folk nap, we stare out over the local water hole and watch the wildlife move through, and listen to the dassie (potatoes with hair) squabble away on the rocks around us. Unbelievably they’re related to elephants.

Today we saw all of the same animals on the game drive, with excellent views of the cheetah family. It’s actually very sad as the mother has torn a ligament in her leg, so can’t hunt and can’t get away from lions, so she is pretty much done for. Her two cubs are nearly old enough to leave her, but their hunting skills are still poor, so they need to learn fast.

Lots of wildlife up close including my favourite animal, wart hogs. Also, two giraffes banging each other with there heads, more play fighting than anything serious. Still hanging out to see some lions, but they remain elusive. Getting spoilt when you start going, just another rhinoceros. Some cool hippo’s grazing and a croc at one of the lakes in the late evening.

The sun rises and sunsets are just amazing here due to a bit of dust in the air, the sun comes up burning red. More amazing food with Ostrich on the menu tonight.
