The Albatross

A bit of a nothing day, we trekked 500km north to Kimberley, the early part of the drive was pretty awesome as we drove back up onto the plains through mist in the early morning (we were up quite early as power load shedding meant we went to bed at 9pm). The drive was simple, stopping briefly for a road side lunch of leftovers.
By the time we hit Kimberley I was busting for a wee, so we dropped in to their largest shopping mall. All bathrooms were closed. They had shut down water to the town to do repairs for 5 days, it was meant to be over, however they needed to refill things. With tears (or other salty water in my eyes) we made it to our accommodation. Great relief was felt and angels sang in a great chorus.
Not much else to say, we sorted our stuff and started planning the next few days in one of SA’s most historically important towns.
This afternoon I did find out more about where we staying the last few days. It was apparently the childhood home of Sylvia Raphael, a Mossad agent who was responsible for the hunting down of the people responsible for the Munich Olympic killings. Unfortunately, she killed the wrong bloke in Lillihammer, Norway. Anyway, look her up if you’re interested, I’ll look up the movie of her later.
